Resizing images

The first thing that you have to ask yourself when you
are resizing an image is |

|
| If you are going to send the image to be viewed
on a computer the maximum resolution needed is 72dpi, that is all that computers
will display. If you are going to print it then you want the maximum resolution
that your printer will print a given image size. If you are going to enter it in a KUPS event then the maximum resolution is 100dpi. |

As you can see, your camera saves a large image at low resolution. We want a smaller image at a higer resolution to work with.

I uncheck Resample Image: and I change the width to 6. My Cannon camera has an aspect ratio of 6 to 4, my Olympus had an aspect ratio of 5 to 4. Most printer snapshot photo paper is 6 to 4. So this will give me an image that is high resloution and will fit on my paper. If you wanted to print to a 8 x 10 then you would select a width of 10. This would give you a lower resolution though. |

Let's say that you want to send your fantastic photograph to all of your friends and post it on your Facebook Page....... You do not need a large image or high resolution, remember your computer only displays 72 pixels/inch (which is the same as dpi). So in this case leave Resample Image: checked and change the width to 900 and the resolution to 72. This will give you a nice small file size that will upload quickly and display on your monitor without having to scroll. |

What if you want to enter this wonderful photograph in
a KUPS Mini-Comp. The rules state that the maximum size is Leave the Resample Image: box checked and change the resolution to 100 and the width to 1400. The 1400 by 1050 is set up around Nikon and Olympus aspect ratios. Don't for get to save your image by either pressing the CTRL and S keys or going to File and Save.
